Unfinished buildings
For this project I found inspiration by the esthetics of unfinished or abandoned architectural projects around Tbilisi. Hollow and empty, these reinforced concrete structures stand as witnesses and victims. They represent both the hope and optimism that drive people and the reality and destiny that intervenes. I wanted to build my own architectural model of these unfinished buildings by using the same technology as the actual ones: real concrete molded in casts and miniature welded steel structures to hold things together. I am approaching this project deliberately with an extended time frame: by constructing a few floors at a time, leaving the “building” outside during winters to be eroded by snow and wind, just like the real structures. When I come back in spring or summer to Georgia, I continue the construction process. I hope this building can be showed at the architectural biennale that takes place in Tbilisi.
