The gaze of Parisians is often turned inward, and the city can seem like a world only concerned with itself. The cachet of living there is a source of pride, and yet for many the city is a trap: a labyrinth with no exit. Rather than the warm glow of human contact it’s the moonlit gleam on empty avenues that makes Paris the City of Light.
For the basis of the work the artist used an old globe and created a map of Paris on its surface. The globe appears dull and uniform at first, but once the inner light is activated by a foot switch the map is illuminated and Paris is revealed
