Glory
«Glory» / Galerie Charlot 2016
To experience this exhibit, the visitor must climb a small pedestal where a peculiar papier-mâché mask waits on a nearby lectern. When they hold the mask up to their face, they are immersed in the heart of a virtual reality scene that shows an infinite multitude of people. The crowd extends to the horizon, blanketing the earth in every direction. All the faces look up at the visitor, like flowers seeking the sun. The human mass claps and cheers in unison, the sound escaping into the space around the exhibit. As the visitor tastes what it’s like to be a prophet or popstar, they inadvertently become an exhibit of their own: an uncanny masked figure, standing in plain view of all, while applause emanates from nowhere.
